Cheryl is an educator with over 20 years in the profession as a classroom teacher, intervention specialist, literacy coach & district coordinator. Cheryl received a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Education from the department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta.
Cheryl has experience working at the district level within two different school districts, allowing her the opportunity to develop trusting relationships with administrators, teachers, and district colleagues. She has experience leading a number of initiatives in both Learning and Inclusive Education, such as developing and overseeing programs in Early Literacy, Response to Intervention, and Adolescent Literacy. Cheryl enjoys working with school districts to understand what their needs are in literacy, intervention and assessment, and to assist them with visioning, planning and creating an effective process, and the means of support to move them forward.
Cheryl has many years of experience working with our youngest and most vulnerable learners having programmed, planned, and taught Pre-Kindergarten in an inclusive environment. This work led to collaborative working relationships with external partners such as Regional Collaborative Service Delivery (RCSD) and Family Services of central Alberta (FSCA).
Cheryl has extensive experience with literacy programming within the classroom from Pre-K to upper elementary, as well as literacy intervention and supports from Pre-K to Gr. 12. Most recently, Cheryl has received intensive training with the new Fountas & Pinnell Classroom™ resources and is one of Pearson Education Consultants for the launching and training of FPC™ in Canada.
Some of the areas of interest and service have been as an executive member of the Inclusive Education Council, a board member of Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre and a team member of the Literacy Alive! Rotary project in Belize.
Cheryl is a passionate, life-long learner with extensive experience leading learners, supporting schools and districts and enriching educational experiences in a variety of contexts!
